Dallas, TX (PRWEB) August 29, 2012
Beginning in August 2012, Educational First Steps (EFS) will provide training to The Concilio regarding early childhood care and educational quality from its EFS Academy curriculum. The training consists of coursework offered in Spanish supported by in-class mentoring to the childcare staff of The Concilio, a Dallas nonprofit which has for 30 years worked to empower parents to improve the education and health of their families. The partnership helps the Concilio enhance its programs for children and advance EFS' mission to improve the quality and availability of early childhood education for economically disadvantaged children in North Texas.
In the earliest sessions, 44 childcare staff received training on best practices in the classroom, covering topics such as positive guidance, social and emotional competence, supervision, and health and safety. Eight teachers that work with children ages 3-5 received hands-on instruction on setting up child-appropriate interest centers, literacy, math, and bilingual curriculum.
EFS will also offer four 2-hour mentoring sessions in The Concilio's own classrooms at the beginning of 2013 and will conduct follow-up instruction to ensure improvements are effectively implemented. At that time, The Concilio's classroom teachers will receive an additional eight hours of EFS Academy instruction.
This contracted service is an early result of the creation of EFS Academy, which offers consolidated, high-quality training for directors and teachers of EFS-assisted centers and community partners like The Concilio, as well as the parents and guardians of the children in their care.
