NEXT Financial Group Representatives Take Multi-Faceted Approach for Financial Planning

According to a recent article, financial planning is more than just investing, and this advice has merited the attention of NEXT Financial Group.

For many individuals, the term “financial planning” is one that largely pertains to investment. In truth, however, financial planning is about much more than just selecting good investments. A recent column from business writer John P. Napolitano posits that financial planning is often reduced to merely seeking out the best, high-return investments, but the reality is that it involves a much more holistic and comprehensive view of the client’s financial circumstances—and aspirations. This advice has won the attention of NEXT Financial Group, an independent broker-dealer based in the Houston area.

According to Napolitano’s article, a client who seeks the advice of a financial planner should be prepared to discuss his or her long-term goals, lifestyle preferences and ultimate financial aspirations. Financial planning is a process that should involve projections for the client’s future, not just present financial needs.

At the same time, Napolitano contends that a financial planner should also look to the realities of the client’s current circumstances—including cash flow, how much money the client earns, and how much money the client spends. Napolitano also recommends an analysis of the client’s current assets and liabilities, including worth, tax value and more.

In sum, he argues on behalf of a multi-faceted and comprehensive approach to financial planning—a view that has found favor with NEXT Financial Group. NEXT has responded to the article in a new statement to the press, listing some further considerations for financial planners.

“Understanding your risk tolerance as an investor and what you want to accrue with your time and money is an important aspect of financial planning, and one that too many people overlook,” says Barry Knight, president of NEXT Financial Group. An evaluation of risk tolerance is one of the many key facets of the financial planning process.

The NEXT Financial President goes on to affirm the important role that prudent financial planning can play in any investor’s life. “Ensuring that you have proper knowledge before venturing into the financial unknown is much easier when you have a financial advisor on your side to lead you through the twists and turns of investing,” says Knight.
