I wrote this book in an attempt to make it obvious that these three characters are definitely very different but that they are just children.

“As a former school teacher, I noticed that children have a hard time accepting children who look different than themselves,” notes M. Alvarado, who decided to put his observations in a story. This led to his first children’s book, We Are Different, But The Same (published by AuthorHouse).

In We Are Different, But The Same, Alvarado tells the story of three friends who face the challenges of a new school. The friends, each of a different nationality, undergo a diverse range of emotions as they try to fit in.

“I wrote this book in an attempt to make it obvious that these three characters are definitely very different but that they are just children,” says Alvarado. “We are a very diverse country with people from many nations, people of many obviously different looks, and people of many personalities.”

Alvarado hopes his book opens the door of communication between children, teachers and parents. He also hopes young readers finish We Are Different, But The Same having gained a simple but important message: “get to know people who look different.”
