Newark, NJ (PRWEB) August 30, 2012
NJPAC announced today that TD Bank, America’s Most Convenient Bank®, has been named as title sponsor of NJPAC’s TD James Moody Democracy of Jazz Festival taking place at the Arts Center and other community venues around Newark, New Jersey from Oct. 15-21, 2012.
TD Bank became the title sponsor of the James Moody Democracy of Jazz Festival in part as an extension of its community outreach and long history of supporting jazz events throughout North America.
“Besides being an important supporter of the Newark community, TD Bank’s ongoing support of the arts is impressive” said John Schreiber, NJPAC President and CEO. “TD Bank has become synonymous with the top international jazz festivals, and we are proud to be joining the TD jazz family in our inaugural year.”
The TD James Moody Democracy of Jazz Festival, co-presented with WBGO Jazz88.3 FM, features two star-studded Prudential Hall concerts: For Love of Moody: A Jazz Celebration (Oct. 19) featuring jazz icons George Benson, The Manhattan Transfer, David Sanborn and others, and Miles Davis and Gil Evans: Still Ahead (Oct. 20), an all-star recreation of the landmark original Gil Evans arrangements of the classic Miles Davis recordings of Porgy and Bess, Sketches of Spain, and Miles Ahead featuring trumpeters Terence Blanchard and Sean Jones and others. The festival also includes the world premiere of Magic Tree House: A Night in New Orleans, based on a book in the phenomenally popular Magic Tree House series by Mary Pope Osborne, the debut of Dorthaan’s Place, an ongoing jazz brunch named after “Newark’s First Lady of Jazz,” Dorthaan Kirk, the Sarah Vaughan International Jazz Vocal Competition, and concerts and events throughout the Newark community.
