On August 30, social media marketing company, fishbat, commended the use of social networking sites, such as Facebook, by people of all ages, not just younger generations.
According to an article in the Huffington Post, 101 year-old Florence Detlor has been active on Facebook since signing up in August 2009. To celebrate, Detlor was granted access to Facebook’s headquarters in Menlo Park, CA, where she met founder Mark Zuckerburg and COO Sheryl Sandberg. Sandberg says that Detlor is the oldest registered user on Facebook, and is rightfully known as “The Grandmother of Facebook.” But Detler is not alone. According to the article, “A recent report from the Pew Internet & American Life Project said that more than half of all adults who are 65 and older use email or the internet. Of those seniors going online, one third of them are using social networking sites.”
VP of Operations at fishbat, Sida Li, weighs in: “It can be challenging for the generation who didn’t grow up with the internet to adopt and adapt to internet technologies. Social media offers value for all age groups, and it is encouraging to see the older generation starting to embrace it.”
Social media sites are no longer exclusive to colleges and universities. Social media is open to everyone, and it is a great way for both younger and older generations to stay connected.
As a full service web marketing firm, fishbat, Inc. flourishes through social media management, search engine optimization (SEO), web design, and public relations. In addition, fishbat strives as a marketing agency to raise awareness about your brand and strengthen your corporate image.
