Jenney designed both the ten-story Home Insurance Building (no longer standing) and the Ludington Building (1104 South Wabash Avenue) here in Chicago; the Home Insurance Building was the first fully metal-framed building and is generally considered the nation’s first skyscraper. It was while designing the Ludington Building that Jenney began work on the home at 4052 N. Kenmore Avenue.
The home has been beautifully updated and restored to boast a “historically rich state,” according to Karen Gilbert, listing agent for the property. However, according to Gilbert, this space could be easily transformed to serve as a fourth bedroom suite. One of the guest bedrooms on this level is built into the home’s round bay and offers attractive views of the surrounding neighborhood.
The main level of the home features a large formal dining space, with an attractive window bay, wood-burning fireplace and stained glass installation. To the rear of the main level is a large kitchen that opens out to the rear deck and detached over sized 2 car garage. The finished walkout basement provides both a front and rear entrance and is currently utilized as a media room and home office. This level also features a large, 16-foot laundry room, storage closet and half bath.
4052 N. Kenmore Avenue is currently listed at $700,000.
