SIDNEY, Neb. (PRWEB) August 30, 2012
To the clapping and cheering of employees, thousands of enthusiastic customers streamed through the doors as Cabela’s Incorporated, the World’s Foremost Outfitter® of hunting, fishing and outdoor gear, officially opened its Rogers, Ark., store at 9 a.m. Thursday.
Opening Day of Cabela’s first Arkansas location and 39th store across the United States and Canada launched a weekend-long celebration featuring music, outdoor celebrities, family and youth activities, giveaways and more.
“It took Cabela’s many years to open a retail store in Arkansas, but given the tremendous response from our customers today, it was well worth the wait,” said Tommy Millner, Cabela’s Chief Executive Officer. “We are thrilled to be here, to join the community of Rogers, and we hope the many outdoor enthusiasts across the region enjoy the new store.”
Millner, Rogers Mayor Greg Hines and Dick Trammel of the Arkansas Highway Commission, who spoke on behalf of Governor Mike Beebe, were among the special guests who spoke during a ribbon-cutting ceremony. The ceremony concluded with USA shooting Team member and two-time Olympian Corey Cogdell and Northwest Arkansas Outdoor Education team members, representing area high schools, shooting a clay pigeon with a Daisy BB gun to break the ribbon.
It took nearly 45 minutes for the entire line of customers, estimated at about 3,000, to walk through the doors of the 100,000-square-foot store located in the Pinnacle Hills Promenade shopping center.
The store features thousands of quality outdoor products, hundreds of trophy animal mounts, a Bargain Cave, Gun Library, Deli, mountain replica and aquarium, among other unique features.
Thursday’s opener was just the beginning of a weekend-long celebration. Cogdell and fellow USA Team members and 2012 Olympians Kim Rhode and Frank Thompson will make appearances throughout the weekend. Rhode, who is the only American athlete to win medals in individual events in five straight Olympic Games, will be at the store from 10 a.m. to noon and 1 to 4 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, as will Thompson. Cogdell, a Cabela’s Pro Staffer, will be onsite 10 a.m. to noon and 1 to 4 p.m. Friday.
Cabela's also will host outdoor celebrities and hunting and fishing experts, including NBA player Ronnie Brewer Jr., 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Sunday; Duck Commanders John Godwin and Justin Martin, 1 to 4 p.m. Saturday; “Snake Master” Steve Scruggs, 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday; “Mr. Crappie” Wally Marshall, 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday and Sunday; and Pro Staff members from the television series “The Huntin’ Show,” 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Thursday, and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, among other special guests.
There also will be family events and youth activities all weekend, and the first 100 customers through the doors receive prizes Friday through Sunday.
Cabela’s will open a 40,000-square-foot Cabela’s Outpost Store in Union Gap, Wash., on Oct. 4. In 2013, the company has announced plans to open a Cabela’s Outpost in Saginaw, Mich., along with next-generation stores in Grandville, Mich.; Louisville, Ky.; Columbus, Ohio; Green Bay, Wis.; Lone Tree, Colo.; and Thornton, Colo.
