Independent Benchmarking Study Measures Performance of Go Daddy Cloud Servers Offering

When we developed Cloud Servers, we were looking for the ‘sweet spot’ between complexity, usability and pricing… and what Taos was able to show us on the performance side is extremely helpful in terms of a third-party benchmark.

Go Daddy, the world’s largest provider of web hosting, domain names and new SSL Certificates, selected Taos Mountain, Inc. to conduct a comprehensive benchmark for its new Go Daddy Cloud Servers offering. The benchmark exercise compared the cloud server and storage offerings of Go Daddy to leaders in the industry including Amazon AWS and Rackspace Cloud Servers.

Go Daddy Cloud Servers exhibited exemplary performance across all benchmark tests. In fact, findings showed Go Daddy outpaced Amazon in a number of categories, especially CPU performance. The results became more impressive when cost was considered as a factor. Cloud Servers from Go Daddy consistently outperformed competitors, even when compared to their much more expensive instance sizes.

Taos designed a comprehensive suite of benchmark tests to look at individual components such as CPU, memory and storage performance, as well as real-world workloads, such as blog sites, databases and big data applications including Hadoop. With more and more providers creating cloud offerings (both public and private), it has become increasingly important to evaluate the performance characteristics of the overall cloud solution in order to compare offerings across the industry.

Dan Roncadin, Architect and Practice Leader at Taos warns, “With all the marketing noise out there about the cloud these days, it’s very difficult to separate advertising from fact…that’s why independent benchmarking studies are critical when it comes to measuring actual performance in a real-world scenario. In this latest test, we found significant differences in CPU and I/O performance across different cloud offerings.”

“When we developed Cloud Servers, we were looking for the ‘sweet spot’ between complexity, usability and pricing… and what Taos was able to show us on the performance side is extremely helpful in terms of a third-party benchmark,” said Brain Krouse, Go Daddy Distinguished Engineer Hosting Research. “The professionals at Taos have been a great resource for us- they spent the time and gave our project the attention it required for a thorough benchmark test, which is just what we needed given the crowded cloud space right now. We hope others will utilize this important benchmark to test their product.”
