Glaeser Horticultural Consulting Inc. joins the design-build team for the Columbia University Boathouse Marsh Project

The firm will provide the professional voice on matters of horticultural and arboricultural concern to the project intended to increase and create new public access to the Columbia University property.

Glaeser Horticultural Consulting Inc. is set to join the Columbia University Capital Projects design-build team for the Columbia University Boathouse Marsh Project the firm recently announced. Glaeser Horticultural Consulting will provide the professional voice on horticultural and arboricultural matters for the waterfront access project.

The project involves an important riverside public access site and landscape area with both established trees as well as the intent to introduce new trees, so it made sense to bring in Glaeser Horticultural Consulting to address sound tree and landscape management concerns.

“I am pleased to hear that Columbia University Capital Projects seeks to include a voice at the table for the trees and the landscape they inhabit. Too often designers and landscape architects pursue design objectives that ignore arboricultural practices and principles needed in the landscape for the survival of long lived trees,” said Carsten W. Glaeser, Principal and Senior Consulting Arborist for the firm.

Assuring the survival of landscape is only one benefit Glaeser Horticultural Consulting provides. Having the firm’s experts on hand can also result in ultimate project cost savings by ensuring that the projects most valuable and irreplaceable natural assets-their trees are protected amid construction. In addition, new tree plantings are expected to receive the best possible treatment for their establishment into the landscape.
Glaeser Horticultural Consulting provides:

  •     Sound and detailed arboricultural inputs and monitoring of site tree conditions
  •     Evaluations and assessments for tree health and public safety
  •     Expert supervision of all tree work independent of the arborist and landscaper firms
  •     Monitoring of installation of acceptable tree protections
  •     Advisement and recommendation of excavation alternatives in situations where trees may be negatively impacted
  •     Needed verbiage for contract documents and specifications for architects during the design phase with regard to all tree and landscape matters
