Woodturners can use their turning skills to help wounded US veterans enjoy a more comfortable lifestyle – and win a prize.

The Patriot Woodworker Woodturning Contest Grand Prize is a set of three of these patriotic Easy Wood Tools, autographed by owner Craig Jackson.

We take for granted at times the freedoms they preserve for us to live day in and day out, a free nation, unconsumed by threats, so that we may go about our daily lives in peace, with the pursuit of life, liberty and happiness.

Woodcraft, The Patriot Woodworker organization and Easy Wood Tools are sponsoring a woodturning contest to raise money to build homes for seriously injured US veterans.

Grand Prize in The Patriot Woodworker Woodturning Contest is a patriotic set of Easy Wood Tools – a mini rougher, mini detailer, and mini finisher with red, white and blue colored handles, autographed by Easy Wood Tools owner Craig Jackson (a $275 value). Woodcraft is contributing the Grand Prize. Other prizes, donated by The Patriot Woodworker and Easy Wood Tools, are: second place, mini rougher; third place, mini finisher; and People’s Choice Award, mini detailer. Members of the Patriot Woodworker organization will select the People’s Choice Award winner from among all the entries.

Entries will be accepted from Aug. 18 through Oct. 1 in the form of digital photos to be submitted to thepatriotwoodworker(at)verizon(dot)net. Contestants may enter any turning they created in the last two years. All types of turnings are eligible – pens, bowls, vessels, hats – the more creative the better. Uniqueness, complexity, color, form, and finish are judging criteria. The top three finalists will be asked to ship their art to The Patriot Woodworker for final judging. Winners will be announced Veterans Day, November 11.

The Grand Prize, Second Place, Third Place and People’s Choice Award entries will be auctioned to raise money for Homes for Our Troops, a nonprofit group that helps severely injured veterans and their immediate families build homes that meet the veterans’ special needs. The Patriot Woodworker website was established by John Morris. Members of the group are woodworkers with a cause – the support of US troops through the The Wounded Warrior Project and Homes for Our Troops. “We take for granted at times the freedoms they preserve for us to live day in and day out, a free nation, unconsumed by threats, so that we may go about our daily lives in peace, with the pursuit of life, liberty and happiness,” Morris said.

Easy Wood Tools was started by Craig and Donna Jackson in 2008 and is the culmination of a lifetime of experience in design, metalworking and cutting knowledge. Craig began woodturning in 2004 and kept searching for methods or tools that addressed the most important concerns of ease of use, safety and sharpening. After an unsuccessful three-year search, he decided to design his own – and Easy Wood Tools was born. Learn more at http://www.easywoodtools.com.
