isotretinoin (Accutane) is a potentially dangerous prescription medicine
San Diego, CA (PRWEB) September 05, 2012
The media spotlight is often a double-edged sword. No one knows this better than Hannah R. Scroggins and people who filed an Accutane Class Action Lawsuit. And yet, gossip and rumor-mongering aside, the real story here is being overlooked according to Sean Burke of AttorneyOne.
According to court documents, on May 21st, 2012, California woman Hannah R. Scroggins filed a lawsuit in California Northern District Court (case no. 3:2012cv02615) alleging she suffered serious problems, including inflammatory bowel disease, after taking Accutane. Accutane (isotretinoin), a popular acne medication, was introduced in 1982 and in 2009 as the number of lawsuits against Hoffman-LaRoche kept increasing the drug was pulled from the US market. The plaintiff claims she suffers from gastrointestinal problems, rectal bleeding and Crohn’s disease, among others, from her use of Accutane.
As Bloomberg reported on June 30th 2012, a New Jersey jury ruled that Hoffman-LaRoche must pay $18 million in damages to two former Accutane users, Kathleen Rossitto and Riley Wilkinson (case no. ATL-l-7481-10-MT and ATL-L-1311-08-MT). Plaintiffs blamed Accutane for their bowel disease and they were awarded $9 million each in damages.

As Mr. Burke, director of Media Relations for AttorneyOne.com, added, “What all this information really illustrates is that alleged threat from Accutane remains. For that reason, our focus should squarely fall on getting the word out and assisting people in finding the right legal assistance.”
In October 2010, the FDA issued a warning about the risks of buying Accutane (isotretinoin) over the internet. The FDA noted that isotretinoin (Accutane) is a potentially dangerous prescription medicine that should only be taken under the close supervision of the healthcare professional and pharmacist. Patients taking isotretinoin may experience side effects including bad headaches, blurred vision, dizziness, nausea, vomiting, seizures, stroke, diarrhea, and muscle weakness.
