Philadelphia has a new Rocky in town. But this hometown hero is a tad smaller than his formidably famous predecessor. And he just happens to be an ant who resides in the Ritz Carlton hotel.

Readers can meet the City of Brotherly Love’s newest star in the debut children’s book from local author/illustrator sisters, Rebecca Genin and Johanna Mason. EmigrANTs: When in Rome is the first of many escapades for two sibling “Philadelphiants,” Rocky and Ruby, who unwittingly set out on an adventure across the Atlantic Ocean to the streets of Rome, Italy.

The story, which takes readers on a tour of the Eternal City’s must-sees, promises to delight children and parents alike with vivid illustrations of some of the city’s most notable sights, sounds, and smells. Colorful pictures capture legendary landmarks, and clever dialogue introduces readers to the beauty of the Italian language.

“I wanted to write a book that encourages children to look beyond their own backyards,” said Genin. “There’s a great, big, wonderful world out there, and I want to bring it all a little closer to kids. I want to inspire them to go out and see it.”

EmigrANTs: When in Rome is available as an eBook through Amazon books (amazon.com), Google books (play.google.com/store), and Barnes and Noble (bn.com). It can be found by searching for the full title “Emigrants When in Rome,” or by author “Rebecca Bissell Genin”. It will be published for iphone, ibooks, and android this fall. The story, based on two, real-life arthropod stowaways, is the first in this new children’s series about life, adventure, and travel. Next stop … Spain.
