This [Bike Camera Contest] is just a fun way to let people share their stories. We want funny stories, scary stories, and stories of great rides. We'll just choose the most compelling story.
Portland, OR (PRWEB) September 04, 2012
Beginning September 4th, Shulman DuBois LLC will be accepting submissions to their online Bicycle Accident Safety writing contest. The theme of the stories should be: “I wish I had a bike camera when…”
The Grand prize for the contest will be a ContourROAM Hands-free HD Camcorder that can be mounted on a helmet or on bicycle handlebars.
“This is just a fun way to let people share their stories. We want funny stories, sad stories, scary stories, and stories of great rides,” said Portland bicycle accident attorney Sean DuBois, who admits he got the idea for the contest after reading an article in The New York Times called, “Cameras Are Cyclists’ ‘Black Boxes’ in Accidents.” The Portland personal injury attorney is an avid bicyclist, and often rides with his two children around the city.
The story submissions can be entered via the comment form on the contest’s homepage http://www.portlandpersonalinjuryaccidentlawyer.com/blog/bicycle-accidents/portland-bike-camera-contest, and stories should be between 50 and 200 words. The winner of the contest will be announced on Friday, September 14th. All Oregon residents are eligible.
“The stories don’t necessarily need to be about accidents,” DuBois said, “though that seems like the most likely time to wish you had a bike camera. But maybe someone made a hard climb to a beautiful vista, and wished they had a camera to record the view. Or maybe someone was riding with their kids, and wished they could record the children riding. It can be anything – we’ll just choose the most compelling story.”
The winner will receive a ContourROAM bicycle camera along with 32GB flash memory card, and a headband mount ($230). The ContourROAM is a great camera for bicyclists. Just slide the record switch, and you’re good to go – filming HD video. This camera is compact, waterproof, and captures clear audio.
In a bicycle-friendly city like Portland, it is still very important to be vigilant about safety. Unfortunately, news stories about hit-and-runs and bicycle accidents seem to appear on an almost daily basis. Shulman DuBois LLC is hoping that this contest will let people share their stories.
According to the Oregon Department of Transportation, there were fifteen bicycle accident fatalities last year. While fifteen (out of 319 accident deaths throughout the state) might not seem a lot, this number more than doubled 2010’s seven fatalities – making it apparent that bicyclists face serious crashes on the road.
