The key issue now in the world of green building is how these projects perform, using actual operating data not fanciful projections.

According to leading green building consultant Jerry Yudelson, it’s not enough just to design green buildings. It’s about building green in a way that makes a difference in carbon emissions, by using real performance metrics.

Yudelson says, “The key issue now in the world of green building is how projects perform, using actual operating data not fanciful projections. For the past two years, I have researched this issue around the world and at this conference I will share the results of my research with the North Carolina building industry.”

Yudelson Associates’ founder and CEO, noted green building expert and sustainability consultant Jerry Yudelson will expand on these issues in a keynote address to the Piedmont Triad chapter’s 6th annual conference in Greensboro, NC, on September 13, 2012.

PTNC is the leading green building association for designers, contractors and suppliers of to the green building and green home industry education and advocacy in the Piedmont Triad communities and region of North Carolina. For this year’s conference, Yudelson’s keynote theme is “The Performance of Sustainably Designed Buildings.”

A professional engineer and experienced sustainability and green building consultant, Yudelson has been involved with promoting the LEED green building rating system for more than 10 years and is the author of twelve (12) books on the subject of green buildings, green homes, green marketing, water conservation and sustainable development. In 2011, the US Green Building Council named him to the first class of LEED Fellows.

Yudelson’s keynote speech will focus on the performance of the highest-rated green buildings in the US, presenting the research results from his new book. In this way, the audience will receive a “sneak preview” of Yudelson’s forthcoming book, The World’s Greenest Buildings: Promise vs. Performance in Sustainable Design, to be published in January 2013 by Routledge Taylor & Francis, a leading global architectural press based in London.

Yudelson’s theme is that, “If we are to get serious about cutting our carbon emissions, we have to deal with the actual performance of commercial buildings, which globally account for nearly 20 percent of all greenhouse gas emissions. In my new book and in this presentation, I’m challenging the green building industry to get serious about improving how these buildings perform after they’re put into service.”
