Big River Man Martin Strel will attempt a never before done open water Swim from the Statue of Liberty to the Freedom Tower this Wednesday morning, September 5th, at 9:30 AM.
The route connects the symbol for a future of liberty from oppression to the symbol for a future free from terror, and symbol of peace.
Martin Strel is one of the leading long distance swimmers in the world, with numerous long distance world records and firsts including swimming the length of the Amazon, The Mississippi and the Yangtze rivers (see : http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Martin_Strel and martinstrel.com). He is featured in the documentary “Big River Man” and is a frequent speaker at events around the globe related to peace and clean water. His Liberty to Freedom Swim on September 5th will commemorate the 10 year anniversary of his swim down the Mississippi.
“This September will be 10 years since I finished my Mississippi River Swim ‐ 2360 miles. I dedicated this Swim to the people that died on 9/11.”
