A survey on abuse was recently taken by Glamour magazine of 2,542 women ages 18 to 35, developed with counsel from agencies such as the National Resource Center on Domestic Violence, the National Network to End Domestic Violence and others. The results were shocking, stating that “24% of women in abusive relationships have not told anyone they’re being harmed.” It also found that “similarly, 37% of women who have known someone in such a relationship never said anything to that person—or to the authorities.” In her new novel, House of Mirrors (published by AuthorHouse), Debbie Boswell writes about one woman who is abused by her family and is pushed a little too far.

Jenna Crandall, a docile public relations receptionist with an exceptional talent for art, has endured years of emotional and physical abuse by her mother and sisters. She is encouraged by her childhood friend, Rosa, to get rid of them – however, Jenna won’t have anything to do with murder. One evening after her mother physically attacks her, Jenna reaches her breaking point and asks Rosa to murder her mother and sisters.

Abuse continues to be a problem,” Boswell says. “Adults, teens and children often suffer in silence. In addition, they sometimes undergo the ramifications of constant emotional and/or physical abuse.”

House of Mirrors is sure to resonate with readers who are or have been victims of emotional and physical abuse. They will be captivated by Jenna’s approach to handling the situation.

“It is possible to overcome a painful past,” says Boswell. “You don’t have to stay in the past.”
