Many artists have a special story behind their work, but the story behind the beautiful jewelry crafted by jewelry designer, Sarah Beardslee is certainly one of the most poignant. Sarah learned the art of making beaded bracelets from her eight-year-old daughter, Kayla, who was learning how to design jewelry in an after school program. What started as a simple child's craft project, evolved into the truly unique handcrafted gift designs of Kayla and Sarah Beardslee, who have been designing jewelry together for five years now.
During the month of September, Blue Cloud Gallery, a unique art and handcraft gallery in Somerville, Mass., will feature the work of Kayla and Sarah Beardslee. Their hand-crafted jewelry is made from a wide variety of mediums including glass, paper, metal, and clay. The high-quality beads they use come from all around the world, which helps them create pieces that invoke beauty, amazement, and whimsy.
"We are thrilled to welcome Sarah Beardslee and her daughter, Kayla to the Blue Cloud Gallery this month," said Betsy Lenora of the Blue Cloud Gallery. "The mirage jewelry changes colors depending on your body temperature--in the same vein as the mood rings of old, but fancier!"
Their mirage bracelets and necklaces have become signature designs. Sarah discovered mirage beads when her mother had taken ill. While taking a break from helping her mother, Sarah visited a bead shop that she hadn't been to since she was a child. Her exploration uncovered beads that changed colors while she held them. Sarah found a supplier that carried the colorful, shiny multi-shaped and sized beads and she and Kayla began making mirage bracelets, which quickly became popular at local craft fairs and eventually, at the Blue Cloud Gallery.
