On September 13th, obstacle race Spartan Race, releases a statement regarding Team X-T.R.E.M.E., a group of inspiring individuals who competed in the first ever Spartan Heroes Heat that took place in Leesburg, Virginia. The race was packed with 75 obstacles and stretched for 10.5 miles, resulting in approximately five and a half hours of obstacle racing.
According to Spartan Race representative Carrie Adams, Team X-T.R.E.M.E. consists of astonishing individuals including double amputee Sgt. Noah Galloway, who parachuted into the race, Sgt. Jonathon Mozingo, amputee of the left leg, trimembral amputee United States Marine, Cpl. Todd Love, and five additional members. Adams states, “Team X-T.R.E.M.E. is not [a] stranger to endurance challenges. The team is actually a non-profit organization with an ongoing mission to Honor, Empower and Motivate our nation’s wounded heroes and it was started by Jeremy Soles, a United States Marine Corps and Operation Iraqi Freedom veteran.” In addition, Adams explains that the members of the team wear a uniform consisting of air restricting gas masks. Adams states, “The gas masks are worn as a symbol of encouragement and inspiration for their fellow wounded brethren and to honor the sacrifice of our nation’s wounded veterans.”
According to Adams, team member Todd Love, who lost both of his legs and one arm in an explosion while serving in Afghanistan, was carried through course by teammates but inspiringly completed several of the courses obstacles without any assistance. Another teammate, Junior Marine Luke Slowinsky, “currently raises money and awareness for wounded warriors as a sign of respect and admiration.”
Spartan Race commends the incredible accomplishments of Team X-T.R.E.M.E. for completing the Spartan Heroes Heat. In their honor, a hand carved log with the names of the wounded warriors scored onto the side will reside in Spartan HQ in Vermont as a constant reminder of the inspiring Team X-T.R.E.M.E.
