City Heights, San Diego, CA (PRWEB) September 04, 2012
Reality Changers, California's leading tutoring program for scholarships, has announced their opening night celebration on Tuesday, September 4, 2012. The evening will kick-off Reality Changers' 13th school year.
"For Reality Changers, this night is a big deal. This school year we will be serving more students than in past years combined. All of these inner-city students will be the first ones in their families to go to college, and by increasing the levels of education in low-income, high-crime neighborhoods, these students are now poised to start extinguishing the negative stereotypes that have plagued America's inner cities for decades," states Christopher Yanov, Founder and President of Reality Changers.
This month, Reality Changers will expand its program by 33%, with over 200 students participating in the core program for 8th-11th graders. Core programs include a comprehensive weekly tutoring program, monthly speech tournaments, community service, a three-week college residential program at UC San Diego, college forums, and a summer leadership camp. An additional 200 students will begin Reality Changers' College Apps Academy program later in the month. College Apps Academy offers high school seniors guidance through the college application process.
For Reality Changers, program growth is not only essential for the organization, it is critical to the survival of inner-city youth throughout San Diego, "If we truly want to cleanse the generations of gang-related bloodshed spilled onto our sidewalks," says Yanov, "then we must flood our inner-city streets with options and opportunities so that urban youth can become caught up in the rising current of high expectations, newfound leadership, and previously unimaginable realities."
Media are invited to visit Reality Changers throughout the opening night celebration from 5:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Reality Changers Headquarters.
