Engineering firm, Harry O. Hefter – Associates, Inc. was awarded the Chicagoland Excellence in Engineering Award by the Illinois Society of Professional Engineers for a unique rehabilitation design of the 74 year old Torrence Avenue Calumet River Bridge, one of the few remaining lift bridges in Chicago.
The award recognizes design that adds value to Chicagoland, demonstrates excellence in public safety, and showcases engineering to the public.
The complex design included several bridge components including: roadway deck, stringers and floor beams, sidewalk, brackets and stringers, trusses, and its entire electrical system, amounting to $24 million in rehab construction work.
