The Simmons Firm, one of the nation’s leading asbestos and mesothelioma law firms, will once again co-sponsor and host the “Midwest Asbestos Litigation Conference,” an event presented by HarrisMartin Publishing on Sept. 21 at the Four Seasons Hotel in St. Louis.
The event agenda includes a range of asbestos experts who will discuss trends in the litigation. Simmons Firm Shareholder John Barnerd will serve as the conference’s co-chair.
“Asbestos litigation is an incredibly complex area of the law,” said Barnerd. “This is an opportunity for attorneys to hear from some of the most experienced lawyers in the country.”
Several Simmons Firm attorneys will present during the 1-day event. Conard Metcalf will speak about the relationship of OSHA to asbestos litigation. He and his co-presenter Mark G. Zellmer, of Husch Blackwell LLC, will review OSHA’s risk assessments, early protection against cancer, small scale exemptions and more.
The recent Supreme Court ruling in Kurns v. Railroad Friction Products Corps will impact how cases involving asbestos exposures occurring in the railroad industry will be litigated. Simmons attorney Kenneth Danzinger will present on how the ruling will affect claims and pending cases. In addition, Danzinger and his co-presenter Larry D. Ottaway, of Foliart Huff Ottaway & Bottom, will review the application of the ruling to MDL and state court cases.
Simmons attorney Bill Kohlburn and HeplerBroom’s Patrick Stufflebeam will give a review of the year’s Illinois Appellate decisions and provide analysis on their importance.
Dr. Faris Farassatie, of the University of Kansas Medical Center, will also give a special presentation called “Novel Strategies for Targeting Mesothelioma.” Attendees will receive updates on research and the evolving treatment options for mesothelioma patients.
