New Denver KUSA-TV weather forecaster/reporter Belen De Leon will join her colleague Gregg Moss this year as co-emcee at Clínica Tepeyac’s “Fiesta” fundraising gala on September 29th.
“Belen is an exciting, new television talent in Denver, and we are thrilled to have her join Greg Moss at our biggest fundraising event of the year,” said Jim Garcia, executive director of Clinica Tepeyac. “Greg has always done a wonderful job, so getting Belen to emcee as well is a win-win for us and our patients who benefit from funds raised at Fiesta.
Fiesta 2012 “Una Celebración de Cultura y Vida! - A Celebration of Culture and Life!” is on Saturday, September 29, at the National Western Stadium Arena, 4655 Humboldt Street, Denver, CO, beginning at 5:30 p.m. Honorary Chairs for this year’s gala include Denver Mayor Michael Hancock, Aurora Mayor Steve Hogan and Becky Hogan, The Honorable Ken Salazar and Hope Hernandez-Salazar, The Honorable Federico Pena and Cindy Pena, Ron and Naomi Montoya, Mario and Irma Carrera, Max and Elaine Appel and Terry Minger
Prior to joining 9NEWS in February, De Leon worked at the Univision and Fox affiliates in McAllen, Texas. The mother of three boys, De Leon was a lead singer for a Mexican band that she joined right out of high school. She and her band travelled the U.S., Mexico and South America performing for sold out crowds. The band received a gold album for record sales and two Latin billboard awards.
“The work that Clinica Tepeyac does in our community hits close to home for me. I grew up in a low- income household and paying medical bills was difficult,” said De Leon. “I can’t wait to co-emcee with Gregg and sing on stage for this wonderful cause. I’m ready for the Fiesta!”
The Fiesta 2012 event, presented with major support from the Piton Foundation/The Children’s Corridor and Suncor Energy, will feature terrific Mexican fare for dinner, silent and live auctions and an impressive array of Latin-flavored entertainment, including musical excerpts from Su Teatro’s highly acclaimed performance of Chicanos Sing the Blues. The event is also made possible with additional support from Kaiser Permanente, Wells Fargo, Rose Medical Center, Denver Health Foundation, Health Center at Auraria, Metro State University Denver, Cindy and Federico Peña, The Colorado Trust, Shaw Construction, Solera Bank, and Regis University.
This year’s Host Dinner Committee includes: Patricia Barela Rivera, Rep. Crisanta Duran, Ron and Naomi Montoya, Brenda and Gilbert Vasquez, Larry and Michelle Trujillo, Dr. Patty Baca, Dr. Steve and Ruth Jordan, Nita Gonzales, Councilwoman Judy Montero, Nolbert Chavez and Cindy Pena.
Fiesta 2012 is an opportunity to recognize Clínica Tepeyac’s contributors, affiliates and advocates whose support has helped the clinic care for more than 6,000 clients, and more than 16,000 patient visits, annually. More than 500 supporters are expected to celebrate Clínica Tepeyac’s legacy of service to the region’s under and uninsured. Staffed with the help of volunteer medical personnel, Clínica Tepeyac offers outpatient care and a host of preventive health education programs. Located in Denver’s Globeville neighborhood, Clínica Tepeyac provides medical care and mental health services for men, women, children and teens.
Since 1994, Clínica Tepeyac has provided basic and preventive health care and health education to tens of thousands of uninsured residents across the Metro Area—serving as a critical safety net for those in need and minimizing the collective impact of the uninsured on the region’s public health system.
