New York, NY (PRWEB) September 06, 2012
The personal injury attorneys at Trolman, Glaser & Lichtman recently received a favorable appellate court opinion after a long court battle.
According the appellate opinion, the case (Supreme Court of the State of New York Appellate Division, Second Judicial Department, index #19005/06) involved a 23-year-old construction worker who fractured several bones after falling from a ladder. The worker had to undergo two surgeries as a result of his injuries. A personal injury lawsuit was filed against the owner of the premises on which the worker was hurt.
As noted in the Second Judicial District's opinion, the court had previously granted a motion for summary judgment holding the property owner liable, and then a trial was held to determine damages. A jury awarded the injured construction worker just over $2.2 million for pain and suffering, around $285,000 for lost wages and almost $536,000 for medical expenses.
The defendant property owner appealed several of the damages awards. In an appellate opinion (2011-06902) issued on Aug. 22, the Supreme Court of the State of New York Appellate Division, Second Judicial Department, affirmed the damages awarded to the injured worker.
“This case is a clear example of how we go the distance for our clients,” said managing partner Jeff Lichtman. “Mike Madonna won this case in front of the jury and Michael Altman defended on appeal.”
Attorney Michael Madonna has obtained multimillion-dollar verdicts and settlements in every county in New York City. Earlier this year, he was listed as Top 1 Percent Trial Counsel — Medical Malpractice 2012 by the Medical Malpractice Lawyers (MML) website for the state of New York.
Attorney Michael Altman, a former assistant district attorney in New York County, focuses much of his practice on handling appeals. He has won many appeals for the firm’s clients, including a groundbreaking case in New York’s highest court that confirmed the rights of undocumented workers to fully recover for their injuries.
