Romance community site aggregates online content, creating dynamic platform for authors, readers & reviewers.

The new AvonRomance.com serves as a catalyst for conversation, giving voice to authors, readers and the online community.

Leading romance publisher Avon Books has launched a visually appealing, content-rich digital presence. The new AvonRomance.com spotlights a wide array of user-generated posts and commentary. The website features editorials, book reviews, pictures, videos, news, and special promotions from Avon authors, romance readers, and influential online reviewers, as well as Avon Romance editors and marketers. The site redesign and state-of-the art interactive and social capabilities are powered by Tidal, an innovator in developing dynamic syndication networks. A recent piece by Mashable sums up the idea of online communities of this nature: “Unlimited content for publishers, exposure for bloggers.”

“At HarperCollins Publishers, we’re constantly exploring new and innovative ways to grow audiences for our authors, and to deepen engagement with their fans,” says HarperCollins Chief Marketing Officer Angela Tribelli. “Partnering with smart and fast-moving technology partners is a key component of this strategy. We’re thrilled to be the first book publisher on the Tidal platform, and are particularly excited to light up an exciting new channel where Avon Romance readers can do what they do best – share their love of Avon authors and books.”

“We’ve witnessed the incredible power of community within the romance genre, and all its associated sub-genres,” notes Liate Stehlik, Senior Vice President and Publisher of William Morrow and Avon Books. “Books become bestselling international blockbusters based primarily upon word of mouth; and online/digital sharing is an integral part of that phenomenon.” The new AvonRomance.com will serve as a catalyst for conversation, giving voice to authors, readers, bloggers, reviewers, and the Avon Books team.

“With data we collected from a recent Avon author survey, we know that the majority of our authors want to actively contribute to Avon’s digital networks,” says Stehlik.

Bestselling author Wendy Corsi Staub attests, “I appreciate being given the key to the city…so to speak! Avon is empowering me to reach their large-scale audience with my messages, which in turn helps me grow my reader base.” The Avon website allows all of our authors the freedom to publish content about their books, their events, and other items of interest to the romance community as often as they desire.

“This allows us to evolve AvonRomance.com into a crowd-sourced, topical blog that incorporates content from our Avon Addicts (an exclusive group of romance enthusiasts) and online romance reviewers,” says Stehlik.

Sarah Wendell, author, romance pundit, and co-founder of the site smartbitches-trashybooks.com, was given an early preview of the new AvonRomance.com. Wendell has opted to syndicate applicable content from her site into AvonRomance.com. “The wider our reach, the better. The more people who can read what we have to say, the more influence we can have over how people see and perceive the (romance) genre.”

Matthew Myers and Burak Kanber, co-founders of Tidal, recognize that romance is a hot topic right now. “Everyone is talking about the great romance they are reading. New online tools mean more opportunities to share with the world.” Tidal employs a two-tier, algorithm-plus-curation model that gives readers and bloggers the recognition and inspiration to keep the conversations going. Myers continues, “It’s easier for everyone to have a voice on this new platform, giving new converts and long-time readers a way to share online beyond their own networks of followers and friends.”
