Hundreds of conventioneers lined up outside of the Sheraton Atlanta Hotel’s Capitol Ballroom well in advance of the first ever Dragon Slayer Award presentation, a highlight of the Sunday portion of the 26th Annual Dragon*Con convention. Developed by Guild Launch and voted on by fans of online gaming, the awards sought to honor community builders, leaders and other contributors within the gaming community. Over 250,000 votes were cast and, in total, nine awards were given, accompanied by a unique “Dragon Slayer” trophy. Show attendees were also eligible for door prize drawings, including peripherals from gaming and computing industry leaders like Cooler Master and SteelSeries. Among the winners, actress & creator of “The Guild” web series, Felicia Day, won an award for the show (“Notable Machinima or Video Series) as well as the “Notable Gaming Personality” category. Turbine Games & its “Lord of the Rings Online” were recognized for the “Most Passionate Fanbase”, while Blizzard Entertainment received the award for “Best Community Management Team”. The highest honor, the individual “Community Manager of the Year” award was given to Jonathan Brown of Blizzard Entertainment, who is known as “Zarhym” to the World of Warcraft community.
