The Tennessee car accident attorneys at Michael D. Ponce & Associates hereby alert the public of the preliminary results of the Tennessee Highway Patrol’s ‘No Refusal’ campaign designed to identify and arrest alleged drunk drivers over Labor Day Weekend. The Tennessee Highway Patrol has released the preliminary statistics regarding the number of arrests made across the state in furtherance of this campaign, and a total of 74 people were arrested on suspicion of DUI in the 16 counties that participated in the program.

Specifically, the ‘No Refusal’ DUI campaign dealt with stepped-up enforcement and checkpoints in 16 Tennessee counties, and in addition to the announcement of 74 arrests on suspicion of DUI the THP also announced that only one suspect attempted to avoid the blood test that was given to drivers who were suspected of having alcohol in their systems. The arrests and the enforcement effort were designed to bring down the number of Tennessee DUI accidents that occur that result in serious injuries and fatalities.

The counties that were included in this campaign included Roane and Campbell (Knoxville District); McMinn and Meigs (Chattanooga District); Robertson and Rutherford (Nashville District); Shelby and Tipton (Memphis District); Jefferson and Sullivan (Fall Branch District); Cumberland and Warren (Cookeville District); Bedford and Lincoln (Lawrenceburg District); and Chester and Weakley (Jackson District).

Additionally, the early results of this program appear to be positive. According to the Tennessee Highway Patrol, no people were killed in the state over Labor Day Weekend as a result of Tennessee DUI accidents as compared to the same timeframe during 2011, when two of the 12 people who were killed in Tennessee car accidents were involved in crashes where alcohol was listed as a factor.
