7th Annual Agri-Tourism Event Offers 28 Wineries & Specialty Farms

Perfect for foodies, wine and beer enthusiasts and travelers looking for a weekend getaway or a chance to explore an off-the-beaten trail, tickets are on sale now for the 7th Annual Sierra Oro Farm Trail Passport Weekend on October 6 & 7, 2012 (Columbus Day Weekend). This annual agri-tourism adventure showcases 28 participating wineries and specialty farms throughout Butte County and provides trail goers with a once-a-year chance to savor the amazing farm-fresh bounty produced locally.

Passport holders can set their own pace, take self-guided tours of the scenic agricultural trails, meet local farmers and winemakers and sample the amazing bounty of locally-owned wineries and specialty farms located throughout Butte County. From 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. each day, one passport opens the doors to 16 specialty farms and 12 wineries where visitors will share samples of tasty artisan olive oils, specialty nuts, award-winning wines and much more. Passport-holders can view all participating farms and wineries and even pre-plan their route by visiting http://www.sierraoro.org.

“Passport Weekend is unique because this is the only time all of the farms and wineries on the map will open their doors on the same weekend,” said Jamie Johansson of Lodestar Farms, who co-founded the map with Heather Quilici of Quilici Vineyards. “Additionally, everyone will have something special taking place at their farm. It’s a great opportunity to meet your local farmers and winemakers and maybe even discover something new for your kitchen.”

Due to the popularity of the Passport Weekend each year, an early sell-out is expected. Passports cost $25 per person and include a 2012 map and free commemorative wine glass for each ticket purchased. Advance tickets are available now at any Butte County Tri Counties Bank location, the Chico, Paradise and Oroville Chamber of Commerce locations or online at http://www.sierraoro.org. Based on availability, Passports will cost $30 per person the day of the event.

All proceeds from the Sierra Oro Farm Trail Passport Weekend benefit the Sierra Oro Farm Trail Association dedicated to further developing agri-tourism in Butte County. More information about the Sierra Oro Farm Trail Passport Weekend is available by calling 530-891-5556.
