Denver, Colorado (PRWEB) September 06, 2012
The 2012 NFL regular season kicked off Wednesday night September 5th with the defending Super Bowl champion New York Giants home opener against the Dallas Cowboys. But the season really kicks into high gear this weekend with a slew of season openers. One of the most anticipated is the Denver versus Pittsburg game at Invesco Field at Mile High Stadium in Denver, Colorado slated for primetime Sunday night.
Sure it’s been nine long months since the Tim Tebow-inspired Broncos upset the Steelers in overtime in the Wild Card round of the playoffs, but this game is far more than a re-match. It’s more like a “welcome back” or coming-out party for marquis quarterback Peyton Manning, who will be at the reins of a team other than Colts for the first time in his NFL career. Tebow has since been traded to the Jets to make room for Manning, who will be making his first start in almost two years.
With Peyton Manning now a Denver Bronco, and playing in his first NFL game since 2010, tickets to this season’s Denver Broncos games are selling out quickly,” said Felina Martinez, manager at online ticket retailer BuyAnySeat.com. “While Sunday’s game in Denver is officially sold out, we still have hundreds of discount Denver Broncos tickets available, as well as tickets to all of the Broncos games, now available at exclusive discounts on our site. Fans can save as much as $150 at checkout.”
“To access the discounts on the cheap Denver Broncos tickets we now have available, customers can go to BuyAnySeat.com and click on the Denver Broncos – then select their tickets and type in “VOC2012” in the discount code box at checkout,” said Martinez.
Peyton Manning’s track record includes four MVPs, a Super Bowl ring and a series of neck operations that left him on the sidelines for the entire 2011 season. The neck injury also led to his stunning departure from Indianapolis and more than a stadium-full of curiosity on how he’s going to play both against the Steelers and for the rest of the season.
As far as the Steelers are concerned, they expect the same old Peyton. “Guys like him make their reputations in rising up in moments like this,” said Steeler Head Coach Mike Tomlin. “He has battled some adversity with injury and being in a new city. We should anticipate his very best. That’s what guys like Manning do.”
So who is going to win the Broncos versus Steelers season opener this Sunday night? While the NFL pundits and prognosticators may be divided, Manning’s career numbers against Pittsburgh are 2-2. This includes Peyton’s most well-known Steelers game that ended in an upset loss in the 2005 playoffs after Mike Vanderjagt shanked a game-tying field goal attempt in the final moments. In addition, Manning’s career stats against the Steelers are as good as you might expect: He’s completed 90 of 151 passes for 1,079 yards and seven touchdowns against four interceptions. That’s an impressive 85.9 rating, except when you compare it to his career rating of 94.9. Translation: the Bronco-Steelers game could go either way.
Further adding to the excitement and the expectations, Sports Illustrated, the weekly sports magazine, has picked the Broncos to win the AFC in its annual NFL preview issues that hit newsstands last week. NFL writer Peter King predicted that the Broncos to go all the way to the Super Bowl to play the Green Bay Packers. King says the Packers will win the title game in New Orleans 33-30. King also picks Peyton Manning to win the league’s MVP and Comeback Player of the Year awards.
