Progressive independent hotel group, umi Hotels, has released its own mobile app. It makes the company's umi Brighton and Petrovka Loft hotels the first hotels in their cities to be present in the Google Play app store.

Essentially an extension of the hotels websites, users can book a room, download travel information and see what's on in the local area during their stay. AppConnect365, developers of the free android app for umi's three hotels, find that the majority of hotels don't yet realise the benefits of applications for their type of business. Ian Hawkins, MD of AppConnect365 said “umi have been using social media for four years and are a company that punches above its weight in terms of technology adoption”. He went on to say “we were excited to be working with the hotel group and feel that we’ve developed something that will be of great value to their customers and potential customers”.

The umi Group has also partnered with Merchant Hub, transaction processing specialists, to take advantage of low debit and credit card transaction rates. Steve Lowy, umi Group CEO said “Merchant Hub offer a much better deal for hotels and restaurants that banks. Even a 1% lower rate over a whole year of business results in a huge saving and they will also review our rate yearly in relation to the volume of business we are doing”.

The mobile app will also be available in the Apple store this week and anyone that downloads the app will qualify for a 10% discount on hotel bookings.
