The Kolor for Kids FunFest, sponsored by Element Mobile, raised over $15,000 for Children’s Miracle Network. The money raised will benefit sick and injured children in north central Wisconsin. The FunFest is planned to be an annual event.
More than 400 people participated in the 5K Kolor for Kids run/walk. Participants started the race wearing white and as they made their way through the course volunteers threw colored powder at them. By the end of the race, each runner was brightly colored. The event took place at the Grand Rapids Lions Club on Aug. 25, 2012. In addition to the race, the day featured a pancake breakfast and other food, children’s games, a petting zoo, face painting, dunk tank and live music.
Local bands that donated performances included: Galynne Goodwill, The Komissioners, The aTOMix, and Surrender Dorothy. The sound and lights were courtesy of the The Lizardz.
Altenburg Gardens donated fresh sweet corn and baked potatoes. All proceeds were donated to CMN. The Grand Rapids Lions Club also served other food and beverage items.
“The Kolor for Kids FunFest was a fun and unique event that I would definitely participate in again,” Carly Corcoran, Kolor for Kids 5K participant said. “It’s nice to know that we can come together as a community and have so much fun while supporting such a great cause.”
Patti Shafto-Carlson, director of development-children’s services at Ministry Saint Joseph’s Children’s Hospital, said that the event was a great success and planning for the next years is already underway.
“We are very pleased with how the Kolor for Kids FunFest turned out. The $15,000 raised will help local children who have healthcare needs through Children’s Miracle Network,” Shafto-Carlson said. “We would like to send a big thank you out to Element Mobile for making this event possible and for their overall sponsorship.”
Other major sponsors were Ho-Chunk Gaming, Bullseye Credit Union, and Solarus.
