Fernet-Branca opens New York registration for the 2012 Barback Games, hosted for the first time in New York City. The Fernet-Branca Barback Games pits barbacks – the unsung heroes of the spirits industry – against each other in a competition of skill and endurance for the title of Best Barback In The Country. New York submissions are open now until game day, Sept. 24, at Webster Hall in New York.
Because of the limited number of spots in the competition, the spirits brand launched a Barback Games Video Contest that provides barbacks a chance to pre-secure a spot in the games through the official Fernet-Branca U.S. Facebook page. Contestants can win one of four guaranteed spots at Webster Hall by uploading a video that showcases love for their bar and the glory of the competition.
“The Barback Games celebrate the local men and women who are the backbone of our industry,” said Jason Bonfiglio, Director of Marketing for Infinium Spirits, the exclusive U.S. importer for the Italian brand. “Extending the games to New York this year is exciting, and we look forward to an event full of guts, glory, music, fun, and Fernet-Branca.”
What began as a single-market event four years ago in San Francisco has surged cross-country, with games hosted in San Diego, Boston and New York. The winner from each city will be flown to San Francisco for the finals at the end of the year. Local submissions are open now, but only the first 40 people in line who have pre-registered will be allowed to participate at Webster Hall on Sept. 24th.
In addition to the games themselves, the New York event will feature a panel of industry judges and local music favorites THE DEATH SET and NINJASONIK, plus other live performances. Timed events at the competition include ice bucket relay, beer restocking, keg changing and a bottle relay.
Competing barbacks can find out more about the contest by going to http://www.facebook.com/fernetbranca and clicking on the Barback Games Video Tab.
Fernet-Branca is an all-natural aromatic bitter (amaro) made of over 40 herbs, spices and roots, and is the only bitters on the market that ages for 12 months before being bottled. Created in 1845 in Italy, Fernet-Branca has a presence in more than 160 countries worldwide and is imported by Infinium Spirits in the United States. This unique spirit is enjoyed throughout the world in a variety of ways and more importantly is a favorite among bartenders and mixologists who embrace the uniquely bitter taste of Fernet-Branca.
