New York, NY (PRWEB) September 09, 2012
Joey “Jaws” Chestnut, the top-ranked competitive eater in the world, will return to Oktoberfest-Zinzinnati on Saturday, September 22, to defend his crown and seek an historic “three-peat” at the third annual World Bratwurst-Eating Championship.
In 2011, Chestnut consumed 35 brats in 10 minutes, edging out Chicago’s Tim “Gravy” Brown, who consumed 31.5. Chestnut is also the reigning World Bratwurst-Eating Championship record holder, having consumed a total of 42 brats at the 2010 competition.
This year he seeks not to defend that record but to smash it into a million brat-scented pieces. Other top eating talent vying for the title of World Bratwurst-Eating Champion will be Major League Eating’s #10-ranked Tim “Gravy” Brown of Chicago, IL, # 16-ranked “The LA Beast” Kevin Strahle of Ridgewood, NJ, #41-ranked Andrew Kogutkiewicz of Racine, WI and #49-ranked Matthew Raible of Peoria, IL. Sean Mulcahey and rookie Vance Van Drake, both from Cincinnati, will also join the table seeking to upset this field of top gurgitators and win the $2,000 grand prize.
“Joey is in the greatest form of his career, matching or setting records six times this year,” said Major League Eating Chairman George Shea. “After downing a personal best of 68 hot dogs and buns in 10 minutes on July 4, he recently consumed a new world record of 191 chicken wings in 12 minutes in Buffalo. All sporting eyes will be on Joey as he seeks to extend his fairytale season.”
More than 80,000 bratwurst are consumed at Oktoberfest-Zinzinnati each year. If placed end-to-end they would equal the length of 29 Empire State Buildings. The event will be held Saturday, Sept. 22 and Sunday, Sept. 23, with a sneak peak on Friday, Sept. 21 Admission is free.
