College Campus Dangers Addressed by the Launch of the SABRE College Safety Program to Help Students Experience Safe and Enjoyable College Years

September is National Campus Safety Awareness Month and SABRE College Safety Instructors are teaching college students how to protect themselves at a safe distance while providing practical knowledge and tools to stay safe and maximize their college experiences.

Our students feel more confident, prepared, and responsible for their personal safety.

Each year there are tens of thousands of college campus crimes ranging from sexual assaults to burglaries. The stats are alarming:

  • Female college students are four (4) times more likely to be sexually assaulted than any other age group.
  • One (1) in five (5) female college students will be sexually assaulted.
  • 10,000 college students are victimized by violent crimes annually.
  • Over 24,000 are affected by burglaries or theft.

With these issues in mind, personal safety expert David Nance and elite law enforcement instructors have joined forces to develop the SABRE College Safety Program. This program focuses on the SABRE Safety Mindset (Prevention Techniques) and how to Multiply Your Force (Protection Techniques). This September, National Campus Safety Awareness Month, marks the official launch of the SABRE College Safety Program as well as the release of its first promotional video.

This world-class program teaches students how to discourage potential threats, how to protect themselves at a safe distance, and escape to safety. The SABRE College Safety Program consists of two components: classroom instruction that teaches critical behavioral and mental skills to help keep students safe both indoors and in public as well as an interactive hands-on training that allows students to put into action what they learned in the classroom.

This program has been launched to compliment the very commendable efforts continuously made by campus safety officers across the country to protect nearly 20,000,000 students. Unfortunately, it is impossible for campus safety officers to protect every student. Ultimately, students need to be prepared physically and mentally to protect themselves until help arrives, which defines the purpose of the SABRE College Safety Program. Students are provided with an effective safety plan that enables them to enjoy their college experience.

Since 1975, SABRE and SABRE RED brands have been manufactured in the USA by industry leader Security Equipment Corporation (SEC). SEC is the leading pepper spray producer for civilians and law enforcement. SEC has trained over 3,000 law enforcement agencies throughout the world. In 2008, SEC established the Sabre Personal Safety Academy, which trains civilians how to prevent attacks as well as how protect themselves at a safe distance with pepper spray.
