The US India Political Action Committee (USINPAC) applauds the United States’ decision to blacklist the Haqqani network, a militant organization which has been responsible for some of the deadliest attacks against American troops in Afghanistan.
According to reports in the US media, several State Department and military officials had argued that blacklisting the network would help strangle the group’s fundraising activities in different countries and pressure Pakistan to open a military offensive against the group.
The USINPAC had, in September last year, highlighted the importance of banning the organization following the remarks of Admiral Mullen. USINPAC had pointed out the association of the ISI/Pakistan army with the terrorist organization operating out of Pakistan.
Reacting on the development, USINPAC Chairman, Sanjay Puri commented, “We have been consistently taking up the issue of the threat the Haqqani network poses to American security. We applaud this action by the US government and appeal for more such measures to be taken against organizations that continue to disrupt peace.”
