Our objective is to have qualified mentors available to provide the guidance and insight that business people need to grow.
New York, NY (PRWEB) September 13, 2012
To keep up with the needs of New Yorkers who are starting and growing businesses, the NYC chapter of SCORE has launched a three-phased program that includes:
- Election of new chairman
- Expanded website
- Aggressive action plan
Assuming leadership of the 65 volunteer counselors, James Alles has management experience in both the profit and nonprofit sectors. He was President and CEO of BioNeutral Laboratories Corp USA, a New Jersey-based chemical company, as well as President and a Trustee of the Jason Foundation for Education.
A native of Fort Worth, Texas, Alles earned a Bachelor’s Degree from The University of Texas and completed the International Senior Manager Program at Harvard Business School.
The chapter has rolled out a new website featuring online webinars to help business owners and managers find solutions to challenges. The new site, accessible at http://newyorkcity.score.org/, provides search capabilities that enable clients to find counselors with specific industry and discipline experience. According to Mr. Alles, “our objective is to have qualified mentors available to provide the guidance and insight that business people need to grow.”
Aggressive Action Plan
Building on the programs initially introduced by outgoing chairman, Harry Dannenberg, the New York chapter is expanding their Continuing Education Programs for its counselors. “We need to continually improve our counselors’ skills and knowledge by bringing them up-to-speed on the latest business tactics, trends and resources,” Alles added.
Along with continuing education, the plan is also to actively recruit qualified counselors. To better serve clients, the new action plan also includes expanded office hours and locations as well as mentoring via Skype.
SCORE is supported by the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) and provides free counseling and low-cost workshops through over 13,000 volunteer counselors. Founded in 1964 and headquartered in Herndon, VA, there are 364 chapters throughout The United States.
