New Horizon Security Services has committed to participate in National Preparedness Month (NPM) this September, an event founded after 9/11 to increase preparedness in the United States. The month long event, sponsored by the Federal Emergency Management Agency’s (FEMA) Ready Campaign, encourages households, business, and communities to prepare and plan for emergencies.
“Part of our mission as a Virginia security services firm is to educate our employees and to give them the knowledge necessary to protect themselves and others,” New Horizon Security Vice President Christy Frazer said. “National Preparedness Month is a perfect time for security companies to review emergency procedures, provide refresher training, conduct response drills, and inspect emergency response supplies and equipment.”
The Ready Campaign encourages people to be informed and to be prepared in the event of an emergency in three steps: 1) Be informed. Know the hazards and risks in your area. 2) Make an emergency plan and know how to communicate with loved ones if a disaster hits. 3) Buy or build an emergency supply kit – both at home and in the car – that includes water, food and first aid supplies.
This is the second year New Horizon Security has participated in NPM. This year, the company is participating by providing emergency training classes such as CPR, First Aid, and AED for its security officers and sharing preparedness tips with employees and members of the public on the company’s Twitter and Facebook pages.
“National Preparedness Month reminds us of our personal responsibility to have a plan of action in case of emergency,” Frazer said. “The tips and suggestions sent through our social networking sites are small pieces of information that have the ability to give high rewards in terms of personal preparedness.”
