Zara Phillips: Don’t Call Her “The Queen’s Granddaughter”

Known for her work with Sir Bob Geldof and DMC (of Run-DMC), Phillips preps her busy fourth quarter to close out the year.

Zara Phillips may share the same name as the Queen’s granddaughter, but that’s where the similarities end. Zara is a singer-songwriter who is based in New Jersey. She started her career as a backing vocalist with Sir Bob Geldof, touring with him all over the world in places such as Europe and Japan, Australia and New Zealand and appearing on popular music shows in support of the legendary Geldof. Phillips has also worked with Matt Bianco (Warner Bros./Elektra/Atlantic Records Artist), Nick Kamen (his hit song "Each Time You Break My Heart" was co-produced by Madonna), David Essex (who has had 19 Top 40 singles in the UK) and John Illsley of the Dire Straits. While singing background vocals for Perfect Day, Zara toured in support of the mega-popular 80’s band, Bannanarama.

Zara has since released two albums that have been majority produced by Grammy award-winning producer, Ted Perlman. Her most recent album “You, Me & Us” was released through her own independent label and Northstar Music Publishing LTD. Her music has been featured on major television shows such as daytime drama “Passions” and “Hollywood Heights” (currently playing “Secret” from her debut album, along with her song 'Hold On' from her latest Perlman produced offering).

Zara Phillips is featured with DMC (Run-DMC) on the upcoming Audio Stepchild album, being internationally distributed through Hoopla Media Group / LRT / INgrooves Fontana (Universal Music Group). The song was produced by 1st Blood out of Nottingham, England and Jonathan Hay from Louisville, Kentucky. Coincidentally, Zara Phillips, DMC, 1st Blood, and Jonathan Hay were all adopted, and they hope to bring massive awareness to the closed-birth record law in the U.S.A.

Right now, Zara is busy “spot-date” touring around the Northern part of the United States as she balances career and motherhood. Her world-class bandmates include: Alvis Al, Cook Smith, Danny Coleman, Taylor Hope, Ben Karas and Glenn Goss.

Recently, Zara published her critically-acclaimed book ‘Mother Me’ (GemmaMedia), which talks about her transparent life experiences, describing her search reunion and becoming a mother herself. Zara often talks openly about her experience to all members of the triads, professionals and Adoption lawyers about the special issues that adopted people face.

Zara is gearing up for her own show “Roots Unknown”, and recently finished filming the pilot for a new show called 'Little leading ladies' (Desert Wind Films) with her daughter, Kayla.
