Chris Smith is a two time NCAA National Champion both as a player and as a coach. An individual with a reputation of excellence and has built a tradition of success wherever he has coached in college soccer. Mercy College men's soccer team was an unlikely destination for someone with his accomplishments on every level but he has really made the most of his time at Mercy College. Over the last few years Smith has led his Mercy Mavericks in beating several non division opponents including schools like Manhattan College, consistently over the last few seasons, with only a fraction of their financial resources at his disposal. Smith has shown that innovation and leadership can overcome obstacles to beat an opponent not as prepared even with the lack of resources at his disposal.
Chris Smith's ability to succeed at Mercy College is no easy feat. With very limited scholarship money and limited financial support he has single handedly turned Mercy College into a formidable national power in college soccer. A former teammate said it best, "The bottom-line is winners win and Chris Smith has shown no matter the challenges, he has the ability to find a way to win and lead at every level. It is only a matter of time until he is given the support, the financial resources and the right opportunity to win his third national championship." As of today the NSCAA have Mercy College ranked 24th in the country with an undefeated record of 5-0.
