Batory Foods is pleased to announce the implementation of an upgraded warehouse management system at its 170,000-square-foot Chicago distribution facility, the hub of Batory’s national distribution network. The state-of-the-art system introduces powerful, customer-centric efficiencies in the supply chain through best-in-class logistics technology.

The project, which took place over the course of two years, launched as part of Batory Foods’ corporate excellence program, which emphasizes a commitment to continuous improvement and world-class service. “As the food industry becomes more sophisticated, the way to stay competitive in the market is to evolve and improve continually,” says Irene Fogelson, Director, Marketing and Corporate Excellence. “We tackle that from the core. This project was a huge undertaking, and we’re thrilled with its successful implementation. The upgraded system and processes at the Oakley facility introduces service benefits that wouldn’t be possible otherwise.”

In keeping with Batory Foods’ steadfast commitment to providing the highest-quality food and fine ingredients, the new system allows Batory and its customers to meet increasingly stringent government regulations pertaining to quality assurance and safety. Its technology tracks product information, dates, lots and freshness with unparalleled precision in real time.

In addition, as documentation becomes ever more complex within the changing food industry, the system streamlines the documentation process dramatically.

“The real-time traceability of product movements and system-directed workflow will allow us to manage our operation more seamlessly,” says Jim Hermanson, Facility Manager at Batory’s Oakley distribution center. “We are still early in our startup phase, but we are already seeing the benefits. We expect to harvest more benefits and positively impact our customer service level and overall throughput over time.”

By increasing distribution capacity, the upgraded system serves as a strategic asset as Batory positions itself for growth. Implemented in partnership with supply chain consultancy enVista and supply chain process platform Manhattan Associates, the Chicago location upgrade is the first of several to take place, with plans to introduce the system across all of Batory’s facilities over the next five years.
