New York, NY (PRWEB) September 12, 2012
HealthNavigator’s host Abe Kasbo was joined by cardiologist Dr. Majid Khan, Nelson Gomes, President and CEO of PriorityOne Group, and Ron Manke, North Jersey Regional Director of the healthcare IT firm NJ-HITEC, this past Sunday, September 9, 2012.
According to the CDC, the Center of Disease Control and Prevention, over 616,000 people died of heart disease in 2008. Heart disease caused almost 25% of deaths—almost one in every four—in the United States.
Dr. Majid Khan of Raritan Bay Medical Center practices diagnostic radiology and cardiology and cardiovascular disease. He joined Abe to discuss women’s health in regards to cardiology and good lifestyle choices for a healthy cardiovascular system. Khan discussed the warning signs of cardiac issues and touched on the trending differences between the reactions of women and men to such warnings. Women are generally more susceptible to complications after heart surgery, thus knowing the symptoms are imperative.
Nelson Gomes spoke about doctors bringing their own electronic devices to hospitals and medical facilities.
“This is becoming a significant trend [known as] BYOD, ‘bring your own device.’ It all starts with the ability to exchange data between different facilities… the ability to have several systems able to talk to each other and bring their information all together.”
He went on to make a case for an electronic health records system and the discussed about the potential for a federal mandate. This was highlighted by the benefits for patients of health records being readily accessible to patients.
Ron Manke spoke about the meaningful use of physicians transitioning to the use of an accredited electronic health record (EHR) system. EHR is a digital record that is capable of being shared across different healthcare settings.
“Meaningful use refers to the ability to structure the data that goes on in your practice [such as] demographics. [These are] structured data points of reference. [Doctors can now] cross reference that with a specific medication, a specific problem list, a specific plan or instruction they may be on and [doctors] can follow that list over a course of time.” Further, he discussed the positive impact in efficiencies in the medical practice and how they affect quality care.
The radio show came right on the heels of the 7th Annual National Health IT Week, happening the week of September 10-14, 2012.
HealthNavigator is hosted by Verasoni Worldwide CEO, Abe Kasbo, and is sponsored by Raritan Bay Medical Center. The show is produced by Verasoni Worldwide, a marketing and public relations firm based in Montclair, NJ.
