When was the last time you had to make a choice? Not what to wear, or how to update your Facebook status. A real choice, a big choice. What if that choice meant the difference between helping two vastly different worlds find peace – or watching them fall into darkness?
In “Portals”, the thrilling new fantasy release by author David Goldwasser, eighteen-year-old Lissa faces that very choice. Battling a deadly cancer in her hospital bed, Lissa is unaware of her status as a group of wizards’ secret champion and last hope.
As a dramatic battle between good and evil rages on in the magical world, unbeknownst to her Lissa is being watched by those who know she is the long-awaited child of the scroll, with the power to change the balance of light and dark forever.
A twist of magical fate thrusts Lissa into this previously unknown world of warring wizards, where she’s suddenly caught in the middle of the action. As she struggles to control her newfound magic, Lissa’s choices could mean the difference between lasting peace – or eternal war.
Lissa’s magical story is loosely based on the author’s daughter Marisa, who in her teens was diagnosed with pediatric cancer and eventually lost her battle before she was able to complete her dream of writing a fantasy novel with her father after graduation from Duke University.
A portion of the proceeds from the sale of “Portals” will go towards her father’s goal of raising $1 million for the Marisa Fund, the charity established in his daughter’s name.
“Marisa was one of those kids who everybody loved and who always lit up the room,” Goldwasser said. “This book, and the funding it provides for our charity, will serve as her lasting legacy.”
