David Greene, founder of Performance K9 Training based in San Diego County, recently returned from Central California with an armful of awards. By his side, Nikki, a 6-year old female German shepherd, took center stage placing second on the podium at the United Schutzhund Clubs of America’s Northwestern Regional Championship.

The September 8 – 9 event showcased great talent out on the stadium field.

“I was really thrilled to not only earn an IPO 3 title for my client’s dog, but we also achieved a high in tracking award, high scoring female award, and second place award,” Greene said. “It’s not often you see a female dog on the podium but I had a feeling early on that Nikki could do it.”

And Greene was right.

What Greene wasn’t expecting was receiving the prestigious Jim Lempner Perpetual Memorial Trophy for “Excellence in Handling.”

Greene admits it came as a huge surprise.

“It means a great deal to me that our judges decided I was the best handler out there during the competition considering we had some exceptional ones during the course of the weekend,” he said.

Greene, however, is no stranger to the competition stadium.

He and his Belgian Malinois, Luigi Du Dantero, became international standouts after placing third at the World Cup and World Competitions in Italy this past May.

“Be it my own dog or a client’s dog, I am humbled and honored every single time I step out onto that stadium to compete because it’s always a learning experience,” Greene said.
