The social experience is a core part of how we approach travel. We wanted to provide our customers with an exciting new digital product that really embodies what Contiki is all about, and Shout does just that.

Contiki Vacations, the worldwide leader in fun travel packages for 18-35’s, is excited to announce the launch of their new iPhone app ‘Shout’, the first of its kind for the brand. A perfect on-the-go companion for any Contiki traveler, Shout is free to download and is the best way for Contiki travelers to connect with each other prior to, during and after their trip.

The launch of Shout is just the latest in a string of digital platforms that Contiki has introduced in the past few months, preceded by The Exchange and MeetUps, and is the next logical product based on a 400% spike in iPhone traffic on the brand’s site since January 2011, which was also the driving force behind the recent launch of Contiki’s mobile website.

Seriously social:
Pre-departure, guests can download the app and set up a profile to connect with other travelers before their bags are even packed, through an extension of Contiki’s MeetUps tool. While on the trip, the app’s main feature is its timeline, where passengers on a specific trip can upload photos, videos and messages to share with their fellow travelers and create a collaborative story of their trip together, as well as post to their individual Facebook and Twitter accounts so family and friends follow the Contiki adventure as well. No need for crazy roaming charges either – passengers can add photos and videos when offline, which will be automatically uploaded once in a WiFi area and stamped with the original date and time, offering a real-time social experience. Once the trip comes to an end, the Contiki journey continues with fellow travelers, as the app can still be accessed and used as an archive of all their incredible memories.

Top-tier travel tools:
Also included are the relevant Contiki itineraries for each traveler so they don’t have to lug around travel documents – it’s all at their fingertips! Passengers can use the app’s handy travel tools to refer to city maps without needing an internet connection, convert currencies, translate languages and check the weather. Contiki also teamed up with travel experts Lonely Planet to provide app users with the “Nearby” feature – top tips on best local hotspots and hidden gems, including restaurants, attractions and bars, plus detailed city information.

“The social experience is a core part of how we approach travel. We wanted to provide our customers with an exciting new digital product that really embodies what Contiki is all about, and Shout does just that,” says Alexis Sitaropoulos, Global Marketing Director. “Contiki has been the original youth travel brand since 1962, and word of mouth has been a key way for people new to Contiki to learn about what we do. Shout helps continue that in the digital age, and we’ve continued to lead the 18-35 market through constant evolution and innovative digital solutions that keep us ahead of our competitors.”

Please note: some of the functionality of the Contiki Shout app is specific to an individual trip, and requires a Contiki booking.
