Sexycostumeideas.com announced today it will be holding a new contest for the 2012 Halloween season. This year, the spicy costume site will be awarding one lucky dressed-up couple a $100 gift certificate to a major costume retailer, and a runner-up will receive a $50 gift certificate, site administrators said.

Couples can enter between now and November 10, 2012 (rules below).

“Since so many of our site visitors are looking for couples costume ideas, we thought this contest would be perfect for 2012,” said site administrator Chris Molnar. “It gives couples a chance to get creative with their costuming and win gift certificates toward free merchandise.”

Winners will be announced two weeks after Halloween, so couples dressing up this year have time to send in their submissions. However, Halloween isn't the only time of year grown-ups like to don costumes, according to Molnar.

“We find dress-up to be quite popular for other holidays, like New Year's and Valentine's Day,” he revealed. “It's also fun to dress up in costume as a surprise birthday or other 'gift' to one's significant other.”

But naturally, Halloween remains the most lucrative time of year for adult costume sales. “We're helping creative couples have a fun holiday this year by offering $150 total in gift certificates to Buycostumes.com,” Molnar said. “On the site, buyers can choose from clothes, accessories and more.”

Watch out: playing dress-up can be addictive, according to the site administrator, who also heads up Partyhalloween.com and Halloweenalliance.com. “Halloween isn't just for kids any more,” he explained. “We find once our clients get into character and have fun, they want to have more costume parties. So watch out – before long, you're going to have a closet full of costumes.”

Close to 150 million adults take part in celebrating Halloween each year, fueling the industry to approximately $6.8B, according to the National Retail Federation and other marketing experts.
