Seattle, WA (PRWEB) September 12, 2012

Visualant, Inc. (OTCBB: VSUL), a Seattle tech company, announced today it will unveil prototypes of new sensing devices manufactured by its investor and partner, Sumitomo Precision Products Co., Ltd., at the Japan Inspection Instruments Manufacturers’ Show (JIMA) on October 10-12, 2012, held in Tokyo where SPP will have its exhibition booth . A sneak preview of potential Visualant prototypes appeared recently in Forbes.

The devices will carry Visualant’s patented Spectral Pattern Matching (“SPM”) technology, which captures a Spectral Signature of minuscule color characteristics and properties in matter that are invisible to the naked eye. Unlike heavy and fragile spectrometers, Visualant’s low-cost scanning instruments can be discretely installed and customized to fit anywhere, providing safe, non-invasive, diagnostic and authentication solutions.

“This is a major milestone in Visualant’s history, as our patented technology now comes to life in state-of-the-art devices manufactured by Sumitomo Precision Products,” said Visualant’s CEO Ron Erickson. “In parallel, we are developing mobile apps enabling consumers to use the technology to improve their lives in exciting ways.”

Potential applications of this pragmatic and timely technology include:

  •     Health: detection of disease markers in body fluids (Blood, Saliva, Urine) or from skin appearance.
  •     Cosmetics: skin tone assessment.
  •     Security: ID and pass key badge verification.
  •     Forgery prevention: verification of papers and inks in currency and financial instruments.
  •     Product protection: creation of invisible barcodes on products or packaging.
  •     Drugs: identification of prescription and illicit drugs.
  •     Quality control: detection of contaminants such as water in jet fuel, or toxic chemicals in food.
  •     Environment: measurement of pollution and hazardous emissions.

Visualant, with its development partner Sumitomo Precision Products, are developing a new class of products, enabling Spectral Pattern Matching to become part of our everyday lives.

About Visualant, Inc.

Visualant, Inc. develops a unique patented Spectral Pattern Matching “SPM” technology. This technology directs structured light onto a physical substance to capture a unique spectral signature. When matched against existing databases, the Spectral Signature can identify, detect, or diagnosis markers invisible to the human eye. SPM scanners can be integrated into a variety of mobile or fixed-mount form factors, making it possible to effectively conduct analyses in the field that could only previously be performed by large and expensive lab–based tests.

Visualant entered into a one year Joint Development Agreement on May 31, 2012 with Sumitomo Precision Products Co., Ltd. (“SPP”), which focuses on the commercialization of the SPM technology and a License Agreement providing SPP with an exclusive license of the SPM technology in identified Asian territories. SPP is publicly traded on the Tokyo and Osaka Stock Exchanges and has operations in Japan, United States, China, United Kingdom, Canada and other parts of the world. Additional information on SPP is available at http://www.spp.co.jp/English/index2-e.html.
