British paint suppliers help innovative artist complete road race masterpiece.

...a huge success all-round.

The ‘squiggly lines’ marked out along the route for the London 2012 Olympic road race, are the work of contemporary landscape artist, Richard Long. Promain provided the specialist paint used for Long’s White River Line and have recently commented on the project’s success.

Five days before Mark Cavendish and the Team GB cycling team lined up for the Men’s Road Race on July 28th, Promain were tasked with providing 50 cans of line marking paint for Richard Long’s artwork on Box Hill – an infamous stretch of road on the London race course.

Under the cover of darkness, Long instilled the White River Line on July 26th. The master artist has created the piece on two separate occasions prior to the Olympic Games; originally at the London Tate in 1990 and again at the Sao Paulo Bienal in 1994. He finished the 2012 White River Line at 02:00am.

Following its completion, Promain waited in anticipation for the opening day of the Games. As the British cycling team climbed Box Hill, the supplier’s fast drying traffic paint was there for all to see – beautifully instilled by Richard Long.

A spokesperson for Promain commented:

"The finished piece looked fantastic on the opening day as Team GB whizzed by with the rest of the peloton. We still feel honoured to have been involved with such a high-profile art project. We pride ourselves on acting quick for our clients and providing the best paints for the job – it was a huge success all-round."

Promain specialises in a variety of anti slip paint and the product they provided here was certainly the "best for the job."

The resilient water-based line marking paint is ideal for use on asphalt, tarmac and concrete surfaces. Parking bays and traffic symbols are marked out using this Promain industrial paint, as it can withstand friction and pressure applied by vehicles on a daily basis. It dries rapidly, which was essential for Richard Long’s artwork, as he had such a tight deadline to meet.
