Teaching Green Technology in your School along with Renewable Energy Integrators and the Reality Show will be featured at ETA's Education Forum October 18-19 in Greencastle, IN.
What to know before trying to create a Wind, Solar, Hydro, Biofuels, Energy Auditing and other “green stuff” curriculum will be discussed by author Jay Warmke. Warmke, Blue Rock Station, will offer a one-day seminar on what a green technology curriculum might include, various tools available to facilitate the teaching of such a diverse program, and common mistakes made when programs try to incorporate “green” into their curriculum. Warmke will teach the basics of wind and solar principles and will walk through a very basic overview of the concepts within this field, giving you a taste of what your students might encounter. Additional fee: $40 (ETA Member)/ $50 (Non-member).
Also featured at ETA's Education Forum is the Renewable Energy Integrators and the Reality Show. In Parts I and II of this session you will learn about the alliance between Freedom Field Renewable Energy and Rock Valley College. Freedom Field Renewable Energy is a not-for-profit center charged with the development and demonstration of renewable energy systems. The primary goal of Freedom Field Renewable Energy is to support regional economic development. Freedom Field Renewable Energy and Rock Valley College have forged a partnership to create internship projects that can challenge the students in the Rock Valley College Sustainable Energy Systems program. Student immersion in the design and development of real projects with real expectations and requirements provides them with an important dose of reality.
Part I: Freedom Field Renewable Energy as a Catalyst for Education and Economic Development
Freedom Field Renewable Energy as a not-for-profit center for the development, study, and demonstration of renewable energy systems, promotes education and economic development. Economic development takes many forms such as helping students acquire necessary skills to obtain meaningful employment, helping to foster new businesses, and encourage existing businesses to broaden their products and services.
Part II: Renewable Energy Integrators Internships at Freedom Field Renewable Energy
Rock Valley College is in the third successful year of its Renewable Energy Integrator program. Renewable Energy Integrators are system designers who are well-versed in comprehensive renewable energy solutions for residential and small-business applications. An essential component of this program is a meaningful internship. This gives the students the opportunity to obtain valuable hands-on experiences and develop project management skills. Several of the projects supported by Freedom Field Renewable Energy during the spring 2012 semester are described.
