We work to prepare a world-class workforce, and this partnership ties our competitive event directly to industry certification programs that have proven to have a strong correlation with student employability.

Certiport (http://www.certiport.com), the official test delivery solution provider for the global workforce and academic markets, today announced an expanded relationship with the Business Professionals of America (BPA), a leading Career Technical Student Organization (CTSO) in the United States. With the new agreement, BPA will integrate three Certiport certification programs into select competitive events starting at the May 2013 National Leadership Conference (NLC) in Orlando, Florida. The added certification programs include: Microsoft Office Specialist (MOS), Microsoft Technology Associate (MTA), and the Certiport Internet Computing and Core Certification (IC³).

“We are thrilled to offer our members this unique opportunity to earn a globally-recognized certification as they compete in the modified events at this year’s BPA NLC,” said Kirk Lawson, Executive Director, BPA. “We work to prepare a world-class workforce, and this partnership ties our competitive event directly to industry certification programs that have proven to have a strong correlation with student employability. Our partnership with Certiport allows us to endorse a program that will benefit our membership greatly as they pursue a career in business.”

In April, Certiport offered BPA students and advisors an opportunity to take the MOS and MTA exams during the 2012 NLC, which resulted in hundreds of students and several instructors returning home with these valuable credentials. As a result, BPA sent three finalists to the Certiport Worldwide Competition on Microsoft Office, and one of the BPA finalists won the gold medal for PowerPoint 2010; the first U.S. champion in this competition.

“By incorporating industry certifications like MOS, MTA and IC³ into their National Leadership Conference, BPA has demonstrated yet again their firm commitment to help their students succeed in school and future workplaces,” said Ray Kelly, Certiport CEO. “Students who earn these credentials will reap significant rewards such as college and career readiness, higher GPAs, individual differentiation and enhanced confidence. We have also seen evidence that certification has a profound impact on placement, wages, conversion to full employment and workplace success – making this new program a win-win for BPA and its members.”

The addition of Certiport-sponsored certification exams applies only to the NLC competitive event in Orlando. Chapter, regional or state-level competitions remain unchanged.

BPA competitors will be required to take both the standard BPA assessment and the industry certification in the affected, respective competitive events. The BPA standard assessment will make up 75 percent of the score and the industry certification offered by Certiport will make up 25 percent of the score.
