Three Headed Lion (THL) today announced the release of its strategic update to the 2012 Guar Gum Report: INDIA, a first of its kind report which reveals the problems, opportunities, and complexities of the opaque, fragmented market of Guar Gum in India.
“The 2012 Guar season in India is well underway,” explains Javed Matin, the co-founder of Three Headed Lion. “A late arrival of the monsoon delayed sowing by over a month across the Guar producing states. While most parts have now received adequate rainfall, some regions experienced excessive rainfall raising concerns of crop damage. The overall area under Guar cultivation this season has gone up from last year. The main concern now is on the final crop yield. State Agriculture departments, Agriculture Research Institutes and leading Guar Gum processors are actively working to ensure yield remains along expected lines.”
However, according to Matin, the area under Guar cultivation in 2012 is now expected to be lower than forecasted before the sowing season began. “The average monthly spot price of Guar seed fell 72% and production is expected to drop below our previous forecast. Projected exports have been lowered as well. We still expect to see production over last year's level, but not as large as previously forecast.”
