Oakland nonprofit accounting firm Nonprofit Suite is honored by Youth Business America (YBA) to be chosen to support their new program Startup Veterans America (SVA). The goal of the new program is to Find, Fund and Mentor Veterans who have an entrepreneurial idea and need loan capital and mentoring in order to start or expand a new business. These small businesses will offer returning Veterans a pathway to self-employment and a means to promote the economic health of their communities.

“Over the next three years our goal is to support approximately 50 Veterans a year with a pathway to becoming a successful entrepreneur. SVA will pilot the Veterans program in the San Francisco Bay Area initially. Once we have completed a successful pilot, we hope to expand SVA to other communities around the United States,” says Alexsis de Raadt St. James, YBA Board Chairperson.

Nonprofit Suite, an Oakland nonprofit bookkeeping company, was chosen by the YBA board as the accounting services provider for the agency because Nonprofit Suite is solely dedicated to serving nonprofit clients, and can therefore offer an unrivaled level of expertise on the increasingly complex administrative and regulatory challenges faced by nonprofit organizations.

The vision of YBA and SVA is that young entrepreneurs and Veterans between 18 and 35 who have a sound business concept and the skills necessary to successfully start their own business can achieve their entrepreneurial goals regardless of their economic circumstances.

YBA is based on the successful nonprofit model of Youth Business International, a London-based network organization founded by the Prince of Wales in 2000. Youth Business International’s programs have created over 90,000 new businesses in 39 countries.

“We feel privileged that YBA has extended their relationship with Nonprofit Suite and has selected us for their new program dedicated to returning Veterans.” says Annette Cook, owner of Nonprofit Suite.

“Annette has been excellent to work with and her team provides us with invaluable advice. We have become a far more efficient and effective organization since working with Nonprofit Suite,” states Alexsis de Raadt St. James.
